Volunteering is an essential aspect of my life. I am fortunate to have the life that I do. So, volunteering is my way to give back to the community and the world that has given me so much. I strongly believe that my volunteerism has been the most enriching aspect of my life, especially since it has had a profound impact on me.
My service to my community has profoundly affected me. The most prominent way it affected my life is that it made me realize I can’t go through life passively. Everywhere, there are issues that need to be solved, just like there are in my community and my volunteerism has led me to realize that it is my responsibility to help resolve these issues to the best of my ability. This realization has led to me becoming more comfortable standing up for what I believe in elsewhere in my life.
While my volunteerism has helped me improve as a person, it has also impacted those around me. The most obvious way is that the projects I’ve taken part in have affected them. One that I feel most strongly about is the service I’ve done for the Children’s Bureau. There, I organized the case-aid room and cleaned the playrooms where children can meet with their parents. This allowed the children to have a better environment to meet their parents and made it easier for caseworkers to find supplies for the kids, which has helped to streamline the difficult work that these people do. My volunteerism has also caused other people, like my friends, to become in the same volunteer projects as me, which led to better outcomes from these events or projects.
My volunteerism will definitely impact the things I do going forward, including my career. During, and after college, I plan on being involved in many service activities, some of which may impact my immediate community through my college’s service center or club. I also want to involve myself with service activities to impact places internationally, which is why I’m planning on taking part in alternative service breaks over the next four years to hopefully make a positive impact on society. In addition, there are some programs, like the United Nations Youth Volunteer Program, that I would love to take part in to foster sustainable development globally. My volunteerism will also impact my career because I want it too to be a way I can continue to give back to society. That is why I ultimately want to work for the United Nations. There, I can try to be a positive force in the world by encouraging favorable change through projects like fostering peace in conflict-ridden regions and ensure that all people are granted basic human rights. Ultimately, my volunteerism has had an immense impact on me and will continue to affect me as I enter the next part of my life.
