The nomination period runs from Monday, January 4th, 2021 through Saturday, February 6th, 2021. Students in grades 11th or 12th who meet the criteria of exemplary character and leadership, community service, and academic achievements can be nominated by family, friends, school officials, teachers, and members of the community. The nomination form can be located on the forms page. All nominations must be received by 11:59 PM on Saturday, February 6th, 2021. Students will be notified of their nomination.

Following Monday, February 15th, 2021, students will be notified of their nomination via mail. Nominated students must complete the biography form in order to be considered for the award. Nominated students will have three weeks to complete the biography form, which can be located on the “Forms” page beginning on February 15th and ending on March 12th. Biography forms are to be completed by the students, please no parents. Biography forms will not be accepted after 11:59 PM on Friday, March 12th, 2021.

An independent panel of judges will review all eligible biography forms to select the Elite Top 100. An additional panel of judges will select the Top 10 Gold Medalists, which are selected from the Elite Top 100.
Students selected and not selected into the Elite Top 100 will be notified via mail and email the week of Monday, April 12th, 2021.
Scholarship for Diversity in Media
Trib Total Media is proud to announce the Scholarship for Diversity in Media. This scholarship is designed to award exceptionally talented Journalism, Communication, or English Writing students who are culturally, ethnically or racially diverse. Trib Total Media will select one Western Pennsylvania student to receive up to $30,000 in scholarship funds awarded in annual installments. Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship
The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is focused on the development of young reporters, helping them grow as journalists and as people. The scholarship will award one Western Pennsylvania student to receive financial assistance, a paid summer internship, and ultimately, an offer for full-time employment with Trib Total Media. A full-page section will be published in the Westmoreland and Valley News Dispatch editions of the Tribune-Review. This section will feature the names of the Elite Top 100 and a photo and biography of the Top 10 Gold Medalist recipients. The date of this publication will be Saturday, May 15, 2021.
Each of the Elite Top 100 students will have their photos and biographies posted on OYC’s website under the Elite Top 100 tab in the navigation the same day as when the print publication becomes available.
