Extracurricular Activities

Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS) – PGSS is a fully funded, competitive admit (was selected as one of 72 students from across Pennsylvania), intense, but collaborative summer program consisting of college level work. My schedule included 4 core classes, 3 math-related electives, a mathematics lab, and a computer science/math algorithm strategy group research project, resulting in a paper published in a journal and a presentation at a symposium., Researcher and Scholar – 1 Year
Sigma Academic Journal – This is my school’s academic journal which is written, edited, peer-reviewed, and produced by students. As an editor-in-chief I manage 15+ editors, organize and lead 10+ workshops, encourage students to submit articles, organize the submission, peer review, LaTeX, and production processes. In March 2024 I was the only high school student presenter at the Heart of Teaching regional conference at St. Vincent College, where I presented on the process of creating this student-led journal., Editor-in-Chief – 4 Years
Varsity Cross Country and Track – As a captain I create a positive atmosphere and focus on mentoring, empowering, and celebrating all members of the team regardless of achievement level. I am a four-time cross country state championship qualifier, a track WPIAL medalist, and top finisher at 15+ regional invitationals. I train year round, including weight training. I also love to learn running facts and statistics!, Co-Captain – 4 Years
Academic Quiz Bowl and KD Quiz Teams – With my high school’s academic buzzer style competition team I participate in tournaments at local universities against teams from multiple states. I also participate in KD Quiz, a local quiz show that airs on CBS. I competed in the Small High Schools National Tournament in April 2023 and April 2024, an annual championship event featuring the top small school quiz bowl teams from across the United States., Co-Captain – 4 Years
Girls Who Code – I’ve done 3 programs with this organization whose mission is to close the gender gap in tech. In the first program I explored cryptography algorithms and learned the foundations of cybersecurity using Python. In the second program I explored data science by learning how to read, describe, filter, visualize, & draw conclusions from data using Python libraries. In the third program I explored machine learning using decision trees in Python. I also attended a statistics & data science program at Carnegie Mellon University where I learned the foundations of data science and basic programming in R., Learner – 3 Years

Community Involvement

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank Volunteer Intern – I was a volunteer intern with the Food Bank’s childhood nutrition team where I performed data cleaning and analysis on hundreds of summer feeding programs across an eleven county region. I’ve individually raised $15,000+ for childhood nutrition programs from 130+ donors. Since 2018 I’ve assembled and distributed produce directly to community members across Allegheny county. I have also sorted and packed food at the main food bank warehouse, and stocked shelves at the food bank market., Volunteer Intern – 7 Years

Plans

I aspire to be a humanitarian mathematician, bridging academic disciplines to apply mathematics to pressing problems facing society. In college I plan to major in a quantitative subject, such as mathematics, pursuing research as an undergraduate and then a Ph.D..
