Extracurricular Activities

Dance: Bharathanatyam, an Indian classical dance form, has been a part of my life since I took my first steps as a toddler. Since my arangetram (graduation), in 2022, I have continued my passion for dance, performing professionally, competing, and teaching younger students in my community to pass on my culture., Performer and Teacher – 4 Years
Vocal Music: Along with dance, I love to sing Indian classical music. Through more than a decade of dedicated training, I have attained a professional level where I have been invited to perform as a vocalist at various events in the USA and India., Perfomer – 4 Years
HOSA: Through HOSA, we learn about different medical professions while preparing for a competitive conference, the State Leadership Conference (SLC). I served as an officer for our HOSA chapter in my sophomore year of high school. HOSA enables me to build lasting connections with like-minded people while learning essential skills such as networking, leadership, and compassion., Officer – 3 Years
Anatomy Club Officer: This year, I am an officer for the Anatomy Club, where we have fun delving into human anatomy and physiology. I organize activities for this club to aid our learning through hands-on dissection, lecture demonstrations, and workshops., Officer – 1 Year
Research: Through my medical research, I explore my passions without limits and focus on finding answers to one or more simple but important scientific questions. I explore diverse issues, from finding creative solutions to noninvasive glucose monitoring using optics to learning how to perform immunofluorescence staining and training neural networks., Student Researcher – 3 Years

Community Involvement

Metro Math: As the founder and director of Metro Math, I lead initiatives, organize events, secure sponsorships, and teach 4 classes per week. In our first year, we hosted a local competition with 130+ students, and 2 volunteers. Now, we have grown into a school club with 16 volunteers in officer positions. We run biannual competitions for 200+ kids, and weekly math classes for 40+ students, and all proceeds are donated to local charitable activities and scientific research. So far, we have donated $16,500 over the last 2 years, to the Brashear Association ($6,500) and the UPMC Research Foundation ($10,000). We are expanding to provide science classes, promote mental health amongst youth, and aim to raise $30,000 for charity this year., Founder and Director – 3 Years
SAT tutoring and AP coaching: NorthSouth Foundation is a nonprofit organization supporting youth through activities, competitions, and scholarships. I led a new team to launch STEM coaching for AP Statistics and AP Calculus. I formed a partnership between NorthSouth and the Brashear Association to create a free, 12-week personalized SAT Math and English coaching program for 9th-12th graders in underserved communities, expanding access to quality education and test preparation. I work as the communications liaison and English coach., Liaison and Coach – 4 Years
Math Masters: I am partnering with the Brashear Association to offer enrichment math classes for 2nd to 8th grade students living in underprivileged communities in and around Pittsburgh, PA. We have 15 students enrolled in the program and meet online twice weekly. I formulate the class material, teach the class, and provide feedback to the students and the Brashear Foundation., Tutor – 1 Year
Hospital Volunteering: I worked in the patient transport wing at UPMC Main Children’s Hospital. I assisted in restocking vehicles used for patient transportation, such as wheelchairs and stretchers, and shadowed patient transfers. I also volunteered in the ER at UPMC Passavant, where I restocked supplies, cleaned rooms, and transported patients. These experiences allow me to observe the medical scene in the real world and prepare me for my future as a healthcare professional., Volunteer – 2 Years

Plans

I am determined to become a physician-scientist who will drive the nation’s health policy in the coming decades. I want to broaden my understanding, using what I have learned in my diverse classes as a foundation for the next step in my education. I will build my skills by getting a degree in both medicine and public health policy. I believe in empowering the younger generation and will continue expanding my reach to them through initiatives to enrich their physical and psychological health.
